Julia is one year old!!!
We celebrated her birthday first at her paternal grandparents in Ottawa, then at her maternal grandparents in Mississauga.
There is a Vietnamese tradition, where an infant chooses from a line-up of objects on their first birthday. The object he or she chooses is supposed to determine his/her future. I guess our daughter is going to be a gambler? Maybe she’ll be a risk-taker.

This is the food we got to eat on her birthday.

She got to eat with her hands. I think this is the first time she’s done that at the dinner table with something other than her all-time favourite food, Cheerios.

She is a generous baby.

Auntie Tu helped Julia blow out her birthday candle.

Julia Ong Noi (grandpa) was hoping she’d share with him too…or maybe he was hoping she wouldn’t.

Satisfied after eating her cake.

Sugar coma.

Birthday party #2 at my parents place.
The family specialty, grape leaves stuffed with rice and lamb.

Julia enjoyed her grape leaves, though we got rid of most of the leaves because they were too big and stringy.

Grandma brought out the cake, while great Uncle Magdy sang “Happy birthday, to you.”

She was born on Valentine’s day
.

Don’t you love how infants don’t care in the slightest how messy they get?

Looks like you guys had a blast… especially Julia!
It must be an asian tradition, b/c Koreans do the same thing… my family always tried to get the kids to pick up the money… lol!
Did they pick the money?
There was no money for Julia. Poor baby
Wah, cuteness!! Also, I sort of totally want a dress like the one she’s wearing in B-day party #1.
Also, I love how crazy multi-ethnic Julia’s family is — she’s probably going to have a lot of really great parties and meals in her life.
That is soooooooooooooooo dang cute ! Happy Birthday little princess
Happy Birthday, Julia!
Luke wants to know if you’ll be his girlfriend.
She’s so cute!
